Thanks for your sobering and thoughtful words, Andrew.
I heard about this last night and felt saddened. I did not agree with Charlie Kirk's views but I have watched some of his videos and found that in his interviews he was respectful and polite and was obviously attempting to have a discussion.
It's very sad when a 31 year old is slain in cold blood for his beliefs. Moreover, I was disturbed when I mentioned this to a colleague just now during a discussion on media freedom and she smirked, Jesus.
No, there is no pulling them back. These people have always been with us throughout history. We are seeing them clearly now because of the Internet. We are in an age of revelation. We are seeing. It's how we move on from this which will be our spiritual development as the human race. The Age of Aquarius.
A fascinating and chilling comment. The idea that it is not, as has been said, that social media "brings out" the psychopathic side of human nature, but that it has always been there, and the internet is a bright light just showing us this, as the awful people just didn't have keyboards for thousands of years. Society is more frightening than we had previously thought, perhaps. I do however also appreciate your mentioning "our spiritual development", which really needs some nurturing, or we're just lost and spiralling down into Dante's Inferno. I believe in our development, and clearly you do, and we can't be the only two!
The response of tik tokers and the unhinged commentator on the msm in the USA chimes with the response to the murderer of the poor ukranian girl by the deranged man on the tube. He is now being crowd funded for his defence! He is the victim just because he is black. Her story, (hardly shown in the Uk, because she is white), would expose him as the monster he is but because he is black this would contaminate the victim status the liberal / left idiots have afforded him and built their power on. His victim status as a black person has to be retained whatever the situation.
Charlie Kirk is/was denigrated because he was conservative and white. But where, I ask myself, where is the humanity? It has been overruled by skin colour and culture. The rape and torture of all the girls in the uk by the pakistanis were, and still are, protected by this inhumane attitude. How is skin colour and culture more important than someones life ? We are witnessing in the west a belief system constructed by the left/far left manifest itself in all its horror as crowds of nobodies, sit at their keyboards, revelling in other peoples blood. Its hard to comprehend that this is where we have ended up.
I share your despair Andrew, not just because of this heartbreaking news but because of the reaction of so many people…..the victim blaming, the abuse, the excuses and the sheer unadulterated hatred for a fellow human. Unlike a couple of commenters I don’t think we’ve seen this kind of reaction throughout history. The world in which I grew up was a completely different place where people could vehemently disagree and remain good friends, where political opinions were just that- opinions and not ideological cults which demanded unthinking, unquestioning allegiance. Something has gone seriously wrong and I’m not quite sure how we turn this around; leftist indoctrination is now so widespread it will take a massive effort to undo the damage. But if something good can come out of this terrible murder, let it be the start of a balancing of extreme opinions and a return to freedom of speech for all.
Like Bettina, I feel these people have always been with us, just not so joyful in their anonymous hate of someone they have never met, because they had no way of vocalising their feelings. Now they have Tiktok, X, Facebook etc etc it has given them a voice. Shame.
Shots again have been fired & a light shone on a mentality that resembles those who celebrated past events such as 9/11 - Hamas on 7 October or have remained silent at the enslavement & massacre of the Druze & the Christians - I thought a generation of young children were being indoctrinated to commit genocide in fact we have generations waiting in the wings to commit genocide. In 2020 Tim Poole had recordings of Sander’s supporters talking about the joy of opening gulags - others reported the jihadist training camps hidden in plain sight within the US. Which makes the image of Mamdani & Ilhan Omar together for 2028 no longer just a possibility but one that sends a chill down the spine. The Red Green Alliance that brought the Ayatollah Khomeini to power has spread. As a socialist worker in Brighton said to me Ah! Yes we lost that battle. So is that why Western Feminists allowed Sarsour to lead the women’s March in 2020 & their silence 🤐 about the rapes committed in 7/10 the fatwa issued in Syria that declared the Druze women could be sex slaves - have not supported the women in Iran or Afghanistan - so what do we expect & I fear there’s more to come. It feels as though as line has been crossed - I hope I’m wrong we shall see
We are the architects of our own reality, which is why the point made by Michael Dowd is deeply flawed. Charlie Kirk did not kill himself – it was negative thoughts in the mind of the assassin, leading to dark speech - whether muttering neurotically to himself or others - that led the assassin to then take the apocalyptic action of killing Charlie Kirk with the skill of a trained sniper. The assassin is responsible for all his actions in that chain of events (in thought, word and deed).
Over recent decades, from an early age children have been indoctrinated with gender and Queer Theory political ideologies in schools, all the way through teenage and adolescent years, even now into third level university courses. This has trained a whole generation to be totally against debate and discussion. Discussion and debate are critical in all levels of society, not just in political discourse, as a way to elicit clarity out of confusion. What needs to be done to prepare the ground in peoples’ mind so that they are open to debate is not to be underestimated. Otherwise, unfortunately, there is no opportunity for debate, which opportunity should be valued. At its worst, the consequences are that people reach for a gun.
The term ‘queer’ above has a political meaning, as in hating everything ‘normal’ and wanting to queer every aspect of society. In this context, everything and everybody can be queered; it does not refer to a portion of the 6% or so people in the population who – having gone through puberty – discover they are LGB. Some, but by no means all, of the latter end up radicalized through brainwashing. But there are plenty of heterosexual people – a lot more in fact – who are politically aligned to Queer Theory. On the other side of the political divide, there was something called ‘Project 81’ in the run up to the US Presidential election last year, an initiative to rally church leaders in swing states to push evangelical support for the Republican candidate above 81%. Queer Theory politicians look for a similar level of ‘queer’ adherents for their worldview, which is dogma and not to be challenged or questioned, by themselves or anyone else.
Apparently when, in the House of Representatives, they were asked to bow their heads in prayer and respect for Charlie, a number of Democrats booed. Utterly disgusting and incredibly chilling. I can’t see that some form of civil strife can be avoided.
I completely agree with Marion and Bettina; possibly because of my personal religious beliefs, I have become convinced as I have aged, that the world is made up of good and evil. It always has been and I am afraid it always will be. To steer a path through this jungle one must have a moral compass, either of the organised kind as in a religious beliefs, or a personal code of ethics developed throughout our lifetime. Unfortunately, with the demise of organised faith in the west many are cast adrift because they either have not developed a moral compass or they have not either the intellectual strength or moral ability to avoid the influence of malign others. Not for nothing is the touchstone of the Judeo-Christian moral system “thou shalt not kill”.
Thank you for this piece, it totally encapsulates my own feelings. It's bad enough that the Bluesky fanatics are saying horrific things about this. But the number of otherwise decent people out there quoting Kirk's comments about the 2nd amendment, as some sort of "well, what did he expect" rationale is truly disheartening. I despair for my country right now.

I am trying to remind myself that the gleeful TikTokkers you describe are still very much in the minority. But it’s hard.

Strong words Andrew, I fear like you that there are many amongst us that have lost their moral compass f for ever.

R I P Charlie. Words fail me but one thing is certain the radicalised whether from the far left far right or Islamists can
NOT be reasoned with.

You’ve summed up my feelings exactly. Despair.
