I think that’s the end of this shitty movement. It will continue to make noise, but from the fringes where it belongs.
What the reckoning looks like is the next challenge. I hope we can temper the spite but see justice done.
Apologies, sackings and, in a few cases, prison sentences should follow, and I hope some compassion for the who genuinely suffer with their identity, whether dysphoric or intersex.
I do think it's the beginning of the end, certainly. But the activists won't give up. Already I've seen many of them misrepresenting the law in spite of the ruling. It won't work, of course.
Anyone who actually believes that a trans woman is a woman ('Get over it!' if you remember) is either certifiably insane or an activist bent on destroying our children and society generally. If Stonewall and its allies weren't vicious destructive morons they would have argued simply that trans people must by law be treated in all respects as their chosen sex they would have been recorded some grudging respect and would have stood some chance of success. But, being, as I say, vicious destructive morons, they are the authors of their own misfortune.
Not even most trans-identified people ever thought they had actually changed sex. This madness was imposed by so-called "allies" who were doing more harm than good.
Now comes the long, slow task of pointing this ruling out to employers, organisations and venues and getting them to provide - once more - safe, single-sex spaces. It won't happen over night, there will be resistance, and I'm sure there remains scope for activist lawyers to earn some dough picking at the edges of this.
It will take ages. And many will be reluctant to change their minds. Thank God for the likes of Sex Matters who are producing all these guidelines for companies and journalists and so forth.
Thanks for the excellent news. The UK judgement will be good ammunition in letters to the Australian Federal MPs (gearing up for election day soon) where there is a campaign to remove gender from the Sex Discrimination Act, where a definition of sex was removed and no definition of gender addedin the amended Act
Yes, Thanks, Andrew for your comment. There are many of us worrying but we are also acting. We are now working on the Federal government to bring back sex into the Sex Discrimination Act. It will be a long path for us if Labor wins the upcoming election, which looks likely.
A good question. My choices are very limited in my electorate-Grayndler. Candidates are:
1. One Nation - racist
2. Liberal Party - a barrister in equity and commercial law ' has represented individuals, businesses, First Nations communities, and international clients.'
3. Trumpet of Patriots - racist, nationalist
4. Greens - genderist and sexist
5. Our PrimeMinister - ALP
6. Independent - progressive filmmaker
Seems my ballot paper has to be: (1) 6 independent (2) 2 Liberal (3) 5 the PM then the rest of the riff raff. I hope the ALP might get the right message if many gender abolitionists, like me, hold back from preferencing them, and the Liberal Party guy won't win because his party has been tainted by Trump links and a leader who keeps shooting himelf in the foot. The Indepenent doesn't even have a website so he's not a serious candidate but I note that the Liberal has given him 2nd preference before the racist One Nation candidate. It's touch and go as to who will win, though I'm going with the latest pundits who tip a win for the ALP. I will also write a slogan on my ballot paper, for the scrutineers to see, registering my protest and making sure I do not invalidate my voting paper.
We have an election very soon in Canada. The leaders debate is tonight in French and Thursday in English. Although I have raised the question of women and girl’s only spaces I highly doubt the men on the stage will entertain the question. Oh, how I wish it would be otherwise!
Our past Liberal Party has taken Canada down this road to hades for years.
That the question was brought up at the French debate was excellent. Positive answer from Pierre Poilievre. Mark Carney had nothing to say……. 🤔 (I realise his daughter is trans. Tricky one for him but that is no excuse for a Canadian stance to be made.)
The Liberal Party (ex: Trudeau, now Mark Carney is our unelected Prime Minister and I am sure you understand how Carney’s economics were….) are fomenting Trumpian fear. That appears to be all they have to run on.
I have no idea how this will turn out on April 28th. I have already voted and it was not for Carney. He appears rather vacuous and not at all skilled with the political realm nor is he good when queried in public. There have been many statements that are said to the east that are different in the west. His French is often comical; not proficient enough for Quebec.
The rise of support for the Liberals is a combination of two things: We so disliked Justin Trudeau Canada was ready to vote anything but him. With Carney slipped in as Liberal Party leader those who have a dislike of the Conservative Party, Pierre Poilievre, returned to the Liberals even though they have no knowledge of Carney’s history. The other party (left of the Liberal Party) is the NDP which is disintegrating into nothing.
Lastly, there is significant exposure of news showing much Chinese interference to support the Liberal Party. (Sam Cooper and Terry Glavin have done deep dives into this. It is frightening!)
I will be cycling in Italy when the election happens. The morning after the election will be interesting to see. Western provinces in Canada will most likely revolt if the Liberals are elected. Not sure how that will filter out. We’ll see!
A great day for the UK. I've shed tears - I imagine along with loads of women , and thanks to the men too who have carried the flag. And the amazing Scottish women to whom I send endless love and thanks.
Now we need kindness....yes kindness...towards the trans people who aren't aggressive, who aren't objectionable, who don't exaggerate, who state objectively that they have transitioned because it was their best option, and who know and accept what sex they were born.
We all need to pee somewhere. We all deserve privacy. Let's build some spaces for the comfort and safety of everyone who needs them. We all need to live feeling safe. We all need to be respected and accepted for who we are. Male violence is unacceptable.
Well said ,Andrew ,and thank God the judges saw sense. I watched it on the news with my heart in my mouth ,because there have been so many bad judgements from the courts recently , especially when it comes to free speech and alledged "hate" speech ,that I've all but lost faith in our justice system altogether . Thanks ,Andrew.
Not a big fan of the Supreme Court, but in this case they've made a decisive and *long overdue* ruling that clarifies the 2010 EA.
It's just a great pity the egregious misinterpretation of the Act has resulted in so many women being attacked, vilified, losing their jobs and bankrupting themselves in Court for a principle that has been obvious to anyone with a functioning brain.
Whatever. How are the NHS and schools and universities going to react to this? If past events are any guide, they’re going to laugh and ignore it. They’re going to allow men in women’s wards and toilets, give puberty blockers to children and tell them there’s fifty genders. It won’t make a blind bit of difference to Sandie Peggie’s case, and people will still be sacked for challenging lunacies.
About Sandie Peggie's case, Fife NHS Trust have already issued a statement basically saying they're considering their position. Good of them, I know. They haven't a chance of winning. As for the others: we hold their feet to the fire. Get a copy of your legal hospital's gender policy for staff & patients (FoI them if need be) and then take it up with those at the top. And cite the delicious clarity of today's judgment. If you're a woman join WRN (Women's Rights Network).
Except now they can take the buggers to court and if they join the free speech union they will get support. It is now out in the open so they will stand to lose and lose a lot of money which if it is the NHS is tax payers money.
Science UK will have an extremely difficult time now, as will psychology and psychiatry attempting to explain why they’ve been claiming for more than half a century that men are women.
I think that’s the end of this shitty movement. It will continue to make noise, but from the fringes where it belongs.

The entitled perverts, however, can fuck off!
I do think it's the beginning of the end, certainly. But the activists won't give up. Already I've seen many of them misrepresenting the law in spite of the ruling. It won't work, of course.
Yes, of course. These people don't seem to have much else to do with their lives, other than blaming Jews for climate change.
Alleluia! Society cannot be compelled to lie and genuflect before the demands of men in dresses! 🙌🏽
Amen.
Best line "Nor is she sexually attracted to certificates.’
Love Andrew's sarcastic wit

I’m in a state if euphoria and my euphoria is genuine and not the fake, medically induced variety. 🎉
There are other paths to euphoria. Enjoy! Hic!
😂

I do worry about the way things are going in Australia...

Who will you be voting for Viviane? 🤷♀️

Who will you vote for?
Common sense at last.
Indeed.

I hope our SC judgment here in the UK gives you some heart & a belief that you can fight this monster and win.
Thanks, Anne!

Canada seems in such a state at the moment. I also hear that Trump's attacks on Canada have generated more support for Trudeau's party. Is that right?
The Liberal Party (ex: Trudeau, now Mark Carney is our unelected Prime Minister and I am sure you understand how Carney’s economics were….) are fomenting Trumpian fear. That appears to be all they have to run on.

We are all human and we all need love.
This isn't over but this is huge.
Kindness is of course right. And misrepresenting the law was never kind. It's a mess, but this is a major step towards sorting it out.

And in breaking news: UK Supreme Court issues a land -mark ruling - water is definitely wet.
